New AmeriCorps member: Welcome Hallie!

29 Mar 2024, by Admin in Harvest VISTA, City Fruit

Hallie Evans is an almost 6 year resident of Seattle who looks forward to continuing to ground themself in the Seattle community and food systems scene. They just returned from a brief hiatus during which they spent 9 months in Chile on a Fulbright scholarship learning from Mapuche individuals and communications organizations about their practices of decolonial and anti-colonial mass communications. Prior to their research trip, they had just completed their studies at Seattle University in Spanish and International studies and were working full time on an organic vegetable farm in Fall City. Their interests in food systems, strategic communications, and the Cascadia bioregion brought them to their position as the year three Development and Communication Specialist at City Fruit.

City Fruit is a gleaning organization in Seattle Washington that has been working to distribute fresh, local fruit to over 30 Seattle community partners–food banks, meals programs and schools. Today, City Fruit’s team helps local tree owners and community orchardists to care for their fruit trees and provides an avenue for folks to provide nutritional food and share their bounties with their neighbors.

As a 3rd year Harvest VISTA, Hallie will be focusing on building City Fruit’s fundraising capacity through research and strategic communications to create campaigns to foster closer relationships with individual donors. They will also be supporting City Fruit’s communications and social media operations in order to increase the organization’s reach and engagement with the community. Overall, these activities will support City Fruit’s sustainability and allow its members to continue stewarding access to fresh fruit in the Seattle community.
