My Sweet Start: 2160 lbs of Blueberries and the Power of First Impressions.

07 Aug 2026, by Admin in Kitsap Harvest

On my first day I had those first day jitters in my belly and the excited feeling of what’s to come. Oh boy, did I immediately see the impact my service would have within the Kitsap Harvest and their clients.

I learned on my first day just how two pallets-each stacked 6ft high with packaged blueberries-equals 7560 servings! Crewe blueberries are packed full of antioxidants, fiber, vitamin c, and vitamin k, which support heart health, brain function, and blood sugar management.

My site supervisor Ed was clear on what they wanted my goals and expectations to be when I started. To expand Kitsap Harvest in to the north part of Kitsap County. So on my first day I was able to donate some of those blueberries to the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribes food bank in North Kitsap. Access to healthy foods can seem inconceivable to some with rising prices and lack of things like transportation. So it’s really important that the sites Kitsap Harvest donates to are meeting people where they are. Bringing fresh produce to them so they can eat nourishing foods.

I’m excited to carry out my service with Kitsap Harvest my values align with their mission to connect communities with need by reducing food waste, nurturing the community, and providing equitable access to locally grown food.
