11 Apr 2023, by Admin in Harvest Blog, Harvest VISTA, Gleaning, Harvest Against Hunger

Sarah Armbruster is the AmeriCorps member serving at AGO & HAH as the Washington State Gleaning Network Development VISTA in Seattle, Washington. Her service is focused on increasing accessibility to fresh local produce to low-income families in Washington state by increasing the capacity of organizations to glean more produce while also reducing food loss through the creation of a regional gleaning network.

Sarah Armbruster is a former chef and recent graduate of the Food Systems Nutrition and Health program at University of Washington. She is passionate about food sovereignty at the local level. Her overall goal for this year is to explore ways that the food the average person has access to can become of better quality.

As the AmeriCorps member serving alongside Harvest Against Hunger and Association of Gleaning Organizations (AGO), she will be part of the leadership team that will develop a gleaning network for Washington state.  She will be helping build a solid infrastructure which brings local gleaning organizations together to more effectively meet their goals of providing those in need with access to healthy and local food.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her partner and kids, cooking, reading fiction, and “touching grass” in her garden or hiking the beautiful woods of Washington state.
